School Building
Our Culture & Ethos
Our culture and ethos centres on creating a positive, supportive and inclusive culture where every student can thrive.
The school’s core values aren’t just token statements — they are lived through the behaviour of the community, encouraged in students’ own learning, and reinforced through the curriculum and opportunities offered.
Our Aims

Our culture and ethos emphasises positive learning, individual development and preparing students for successful futures.

We achieve this by:

-
Fostering understanding: Continually developing a deeper awareness of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) among our students, staff, and wider community.

-
Prioritising wellbeing: Helping students understand their emotions and providing them with a range of strategies to manage the daily activities of life with confidence.

-
Enhancing academic achievement: Delivering a broad, meaningful, and enjoyable curriculum that makes learning a rewarding experience for all.

-
Building community: Encouraging every student to become an active and valued participant in both our school and the local community.

-
Developing social skills: Implementing carefully designed support programmes—developed in collaboration with our in-house team, parents, and students—to enhance social understanding.

-
Promoting independence: Empowering our students to make positive choices and preparing them to contribute meaningfully to their communities in the future.

Our Core Values:

Acceptance
At Newingate School, acceptance means valuing every student as an individual with unique strengths and needs. Our Staff work to understand each student’s background, especially their diagnosis and social-emotional needs, and adapt learning and support so everyone feels respected and included. Students are encouraged to recognise and appreciate diversity in themselves and others, helping create a community where everyone feels they belong.

Acceptance fosters belonging and respect.

Safety
Safety at Newingate School goes beyond physical protection. It means creating a secure, predictable environment where students can learn, express themselves and manage their emotions confidently. The school’s small size, personalised support and strong staff relationships help students feel emotionally safe, while clear policies and trained staff ensure physical and emotional wellbeing are closely looked after.

Safety ensures confidence and wellbeing.

Kindness
Kindness is central to daily life at the school. It’s shown through supportive, compassionate interactions between staff and students and among students themselves. Kindness encourages students to treat others with empathy, to help one another, and to develop strong social and communication skills that support positive relationships both inside and outside school.

Kindness provides a caring and supportive community.
