Year 7 Art Trip to the Turner Contemporary Gallery, Margate

February 2024

Year 7 students visited the Turner Contemporary Gallery situated on the seafront in Margate, to enable them to observe work by numerous artists first hand.

Students have been exploring the work of the historical artist, William Turner and the contemporary artist Kurt Jackson as part of the curriculum in their art lessons.

The Turner Gallery is built on the site of the boarding house where JMW Turner stayed during his visits to Margate, the gallery is inspired by the life and work of the celebrated artist, who found inspiration in the town’s skies and light.

This enabled the students to view the sea and explore the actual location that Turner was inspired by. Students had created their own seascapes using mixed media prior to attending the gallery.

The students were offered a sensory bag as they navigated their way around the exhibition, this enabled them to feel offcuts of materials used to create the artwork on show.

They observed the contemporary artwork on show. They were also able to explore the core learning studio with sculptural artworks designed for play, alongside the children’s art library of over 400 books and regular workshop programme.

Everything in the space was interactive and students were encouraged to spend time to test ideas and explore, to look in different ways, create sculptures, take photographs, move things around, stack, link, play, and add their contributions to the changing space.

September 2023

We have some fantastic news to share with you!

Our new students have just joined us!

Their journey at Newingate School started with a fun team-building activity that has brightened up our playground and created an environment that fosters growth and friendship.

Over the last few days, we have spent time together filling the playground with brightly coloured plants and searching high and low for fascinating critters that call our playground their home.

Our students have already shown incredible enthusiasm and eagerness to learn and grow, and we couldn't be more excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.

Supporting Teacher Development in the Caribbean!

August 2023

We were honoured and delighted that our Headteacher, David Carden, was invited to work with Bowden Education supporting teacher development on the Dutch Caribbean islands of St Eustatius and Saba this summer.

David went to the islands at the end of August where he led workshops on supporting pupils with autism to primary and secondary schools on the islands.

David shared his knowledge and a range of practical strategies with teachers to enable them to better support the pupils within their classes with special educational needs, in particular autism.
